This song proclaims, “I want to love you in the light” by one who is coming from a past of darkness and wanting a promising-looking love relationship to be pure and “in the light”.

How we long for true love without lies messing it up: “Our trust is growing, standing firm and true” the lyrics say in the chorus. So idealistic, the bridge states “The light is pouring through our skin, into our hearts, down to the bone” proclaiming a wish for love's purity to be downright physical. After Paige wrote and performed this original song for her fellow songwriters, she learned that the chorus needed more “lift” and it took an additional year for her to figure out how to lift the melody, yet use the same chord progression. Also, in a songwriting class she learned that lots of quarter notes in a melody sound like an anthem, and this song really is an anthem about the desire for purity in love.

Love You In The Light

words and music by Paige Powell                         © 2014 Paige E. Powell

1. Last year, my house was dark with anger and fear
That was a thousand miles away
Now, I’ve come here to open windows and doors
And opened up to you today

Chorus: I want to love you in the light
Our trust is growing, standing firm and true
I want to love you in the light
And I thank God for finally finding you

2. Last night, I dreamed of fragrant gardens of green
Our faces washed with morning sun
And shining waters that reflect in your eyes
I’m dreaming you might be the one!              (Repeat Chorus)

Bridge: The light is pouring through our skin,
into our hearts, down to the bone
Blue skies have opened again,
and if we’re apart, we’re never alone

(Repeat Chorus 2x)
