About Paige Powell
Yes! I have a
Mission Statement:
My mission in writing and recording songs is
"To cheer you up
and help you feel better."
Paige Powell has a low, alto voice that sounds a lot like Christine McVie and a little like Cheryl Crow, Carole King, Annie Lennox and Carly Simon. Her songwriting style is from Billy Joel, Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon. Now relocated to Orlando, Florida, she was well-known in the Washington, D.C. area for hosting several open mics for 6 years, some of them sponsored by the Songwriters' Association of Washington (SAW), where she is an active member and Board Member Emeritus. Because of her long-time service as a Board Member in SAW, she was selected to be a judge in the Open category for the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. Paige is also an active member of the D.C. chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association, International (NSAI). She has a real passion for songwriting, having written more than 190 songs, recording more than 70 of them, generating 2 CDs and 25+ singles released on iTunes and CDBaby.com.
On October 22, Jimmy Fallon from The Tonight Show played the first 37 seconds of her song, "Tumble Dry Low" in his Do Not Play segment and although he made fun of the song, he sang the chorus. Two of her songs, "Blackeyed Peas" and “Give Me A Beach” won honorable mentions from the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. Recently, Paige was a semi-finalist in the 2018 Bernard/Ebb songwriting competition She continues to study songwriting, participating in many SAW and NSAI workshops and seminars, which have included workshops with instructors from the Berkley School of Music
Because her father played classical music albums all the time, Paige grew up with Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Stravinsky, Debussy, Rimsky-Korsakov and Rachmaninoff. She started piano lessons at the age of 8, playing classical pieces until she fell in love with the guitar at the age of 13. Paige played her original songs in college, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Tulsa. Later, she played cover songs in clubs in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Colorado. The last 2 years she lived in Oklahoma, she was a member of the Tulsa Songwriters Association, and attended several songwriting seminars including one sponsored by ASCAP, which is why she chose them as her PRO. She currently owns Kinslow Music Publishing Co. (ASCAP) where she has has published most of her songs.
Paige writes a wide variety of songs which keeps her fans entertained. She has several songs you can sing along with. Occasionally, she likes to use jazz chords which lends them to the “jazz songs” market. Her lyrics tend to be more specific than vague: one of her songwriting friends, Michael Roth, once commented. "Paige can write a song about anything!". Most of her songs have been performance and open-mic tested, as well as critiqued by her fellow songwriters. Paige also writes instrumental pieces with strong melodies (see WolfeandPowell.com).
