Groundhog Day
words and music by Paige Powell ©2019 Paige E. Powell
1. Did you make your New Year’s Resolutions
And find that they are too hard to maintain?
I have got an idea that could help us
A second chance to try them once again
Chorus: Groundhog Day could become
A special day for a …mulligan
If the sky is blue or gray
Let’s take a second chance on Groundhog Day!
2. Somehow, in the harsh and blustery Winter
We need to add some humor to our lives
The groundhog’s creeping outside from his burrow
And if he sees his shadow, back he dives! (But…)
(Repeat Chorus)
Bridge: It’s crazy if only on one day
A cloud would stay — or if it parts
Could somehow shorten or extend
Or move the end of Winter
From the 20th of March (20th of March)
La, la, la…Oh…
3. Those of us who’ve seen Bill Murray’s movie
Remember how he got so stuck in time
He lived Groundhog Day over and over (and over)
Another chance to learn how to be kind
(let's re-do that line)
A do-over to learn how to be kind. (So…)
(Repeat Chorus)
Funny, humorous song about Groundhog Day becoming a “mulligan” to have a do-over of your New Year’s resolutions just like “Bill Murray’s movie”!
Perfect “sing-along” song to add to your repertoire if you’re performing on February 2nd — Groundhog Day. The purpose is to convince everyone that they can have a “second” chance on February 2nd, Groundhog Day, just like Bill Murray did in his famous movie, “Groundhog Day”. At the end of this simple guitar-vocal recording, Paige asked her singer/songwriter buddies to sing along on the last chorus: Robert Dale Klein (who also contributed harmonies), Alex Alavi, Spence Burton, Gracious Me, and Jim Thorne, who also sings on the other two choruses. Many thanks to them and also to recording engineer, Alan Harrington.
