More Of Your Time
words and music by Paige Powell ©2007 Paige E. Powell
1. Yes, you’re free, go with the guys
Watch the game or go exercise
You have family, your friends and career
Please just don’t forget that I’m here
Chorus 1: Our love...
Neglecting love would be a crime
Give love more of your time
2. This shirt is clean, now, grab the socks
Every morning watches the clocks
Office day, dollar lunch
How they need you during the crunch
Chorus 2: I fly... I’m crazy-busy too
But I need time, time with you
Bridge: How I need your hands touching my face
But the hands of the clock, they still win the race
How I want the hands of the clock to stand still
Find the empty place in your schedule I fill
3. So much work, now we’re tired
Neither one of us is inspired
T.V. on — brains are dead
Then, we finally crawl off to bed
Chorus 1: Our love...
Neglecting love would be a crime
Give love more of your time... time... time...

August 14, 2020: The Story Behind the Song, "More Of Your Time":
Some people are surprised to learn that I was married many years ago when I lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I've been single for so long that they assume I've always been a "spinster" — an unmarried woman. But, yes, I'm a divorcee, and my song, "More Of Your Time" is what I wished I had said to my husband more often when we were married. The lyrics say, "Neglecting love would be a crime" and yes, love can be neglected to death. Love needs to be cared for, almost like a plant or animal that needs to be watered, fed, and given attention. (I recently lost a small lemon thyme plant that died because I wasn't paying attention to it.)
What's interesting about "More Of Your Time" is that it was a completely re-written song. The original song was a description of a woman, called "Tan Flower" and the lyrics were okay, but didn't really have a point. One day I decided to change the entire song, including a message to the listener about the importance of love in a relationship. I've always loved the music to the song, and created an instrumental version on "Cappuccino Music" with Steve Wolfe playing the melody on saxophone. Click HERE to hear it.
I'm still trying to schedule time to work on my songs, trying to give my current love of music more time, just like the song says. I just can't neglect my love for songwriting! Tomorrow morning, I have a Zoom meeting with my beloved DC chapter of Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). This week, I submitted my song, "Waterfall" for an NSAI evaluation with a first draft rough unfinished demo. I'm hoping they'll give me feedback that helps me polish it in the studio and get it released so I can share it with YOU, dear reader. Meanwhile, Don Micallef's song table has been helping me to see at a glance what songs I have "in the hopper" to be polished and pitched. The sad thing is that I haven't pitched a single one of my songs to a publisher in the past year, mostly because I don't know how to do it. I have no idea how to research a publisher who might be right for my particular songs — they are so specialized these days. 4 years ago, I sent my blues songs to Alligator Records, recommended by fellow songwriter, Robbie Keelin. He was right, that they would respond to my submission. Their rejection letter to me said that they absolutely didn't see how any of my songs were blues songs. Oh well. Back to trying again!
