Why Did I Worry?

words and music by Paige Powell          © 2014 Paige E. Powell
and Cyndy Slaughter

1. Why did I worry? There was no need

Why did I worry? For clothes or what to eat?
Is not life more important than food?
And the body more important than clothes?
Why did I worry? God takes care of me!

Bridge: Take a look at the birds of the air

They do not sow, reap or store
Yet, our Heavenly Father does care
To Him, I am worth so much more!

2. Why did I worry? (Why did I worry?)

There was no need (There was no need)
Why did I worry? (Why did I worry?)
For clothes or what to eat?
Who can add one more hour to their life?
Let tomorrow take care of itself
Why did I worry? (Why did I worry?)
God takes care of me!

Bridge: Take a look at the grass of the field

See how the lilies grow free
Seek His kingdom and His righteousness
And those things will be given to me

1. Why did I worry? (Why did I worry?)

There was no need (There was no need)
Why did I worry? (Why did I worry?)
For clothes or what to eat?
Is not life more important than food?
And the body more important than clothes?
Why did I worry? (Why did I worry?)
God takes care of me!
(Why did I worry?) God takes care of me!
(Why did I worry?) God takes care of me!

Relaxed and happy, with a ‘60s vibe and Beach Boys style harmonies, this song has lyrics inspired (almost copied) by the Bible’s book of Matthew, chapter 6, part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.

Great for performing, this is a “sing-along” song, one that any audience, big or small, can pick up immediately because they just repeat (like an echo) each line in the chorus, which comes first in the song! Originally written during a church service at Convergence in Alexandria, VA, good friend Cindi Slaughter got our assignment to a great start. Paige finished the song later, adding more verses and 2 bridges. Cindi declined a co-writer rights, but Paige wanted to at least give her a mention and some credit for the birth of this song!
