Yes, that is a photograph of ME when I was 13 years old and beginning to learn how to play my Aunt Robbie's guitar. I'm sitting at the top of the 67 wooden steps that led up to the family's cabin in Taos, New Mexico, where I spent two summers with my cousins, Deborah, Valerie ("Valli"), David, Joel and Noah. I became the 6th kid in the family and had to learn how to SHARE, a new concept for me, since I was an only child and never had to learn that (all the cookies at home were mine!). To this day, we are all still close and they often visit my mother, Aunt Janet.

However, the song, "We're Walkin' Home" is about playing with friends in the dense woods behind my house in Greenbelt, Maryland, where "leaves paved the tree-rooted path" and I hear Mother calling me home to supper because it's getting dark and it's time to come in. Also included in the song are memories of climbing a tree, not just because that in itself was fun, but so you could change your perspective and "see... how far can you see?"  In addition, riding a bike "with wind in my hair" made me feel like I was flying.

words and music by Paige Powell                      ©2005 Paige E. Powell

1. I remember us playing outside when Mother called
Where leaves paved the tree-rooted path to supper
We're walkin' home

2. Isolation, creating a world of our own
Making secret castles and kings
And garlands for the forest throne

Br. Run, run, run
Come on, let's climb the big tree
And see just how far we can see
How far can you see?

3. Gliding, soaring
Riding on wheels, flying free
Quiet, with wind in my hair
No engine needed for speed

(Repeat Bridge)

(Repeat verse 1)

Together, we're walkin' home

It's dark now, we're walkin' home

I hope this newsletter and my song about childhood memories give you peace and comfort. You can also click above and see the new Music Video I created today, with the help of other photographers and videographers (see the credits at the end). The best footage was from Vanessa Denegri during her hikes with Corina Regrut — both very good friends from my Bible study group. Thank you, Vanessa!

So, dear reader, I hope you remember a good childhood memory too!
